Green Investing
Part of your tasks as a responsible investor is to make sure that the company that you are putting your money into is environmentally and socially conscious. Today, there is such a term as 'green investing' which can be added to stocks, bonds, foreign exchange, derivatives, futures and real estate investing. Here's a quick list of the characteristics of a green investment. As the name implies, the company that you will be investing in should have the sole purpose of turning the world into a greener and cleaner place.
Being an environmentally conscious company does not just extend on producing ecologically-friendly products. Even the day-to-day operations of the company should be included – from having a more energy-efficient office building to a more environmentally-conscious manufacturing processes.
Now, if you decide to go into green investing, there are a couple of things that you need to consider. The first one is that the company should have environmentally-friendly products, services, operations and manufacturing processes. The second one is a bit more important. Since you are an investor and your main purpose is to have a return of investment – you should still determine the performance of the company in the stock market. Just because a company claims to be eco-friendly does not necessarily make them a good investment option. You can start by checking out the company profile and commitment to the environment of companies which develop more energy-efficient vehicles.
Companies which focus on recycling, water and air purification, alternative fuel and renewable energy are also a good place to start. With green investing, you are serving a dual purpose. Not only will you be increasing your profit as an investor, but you can also do your share in helping save the environment by investing on environmentally conscious companies which are committed to being green.
